Matti-Lynn Chrisman, the newly-crowned Miss Ohio, stood near the row of benches in front of the courthouse, ducking into the shade to keep cool.
She chatted warmly while she fixed her sash and placed her crown on her head. There were a few smudge marks left on the sash from where women had gotten lipstick on it while hugging her after her victory.
“It’s exciting, but a little overwhelming at times,” she said when asked about winning. “People call me in the morning and say, ‘Hello, Miss Ohio,’ and I still look around to make sure they’re talking about me.”
Chrisman, who won the crown in June, has spent her time preparing for the next step — competing to be Miss America. Being the first woman from Cambridge to win Miss Ohio, she’ll also be the first to represent her community on the national stage. She said she’s not intimidated by the opportunity, and credits those around her for her calm demeanor.
